Marietta's Knab named OAC Player of the Week
Freshman averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in pair of wins
Jan. 19, 2009
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — Marietta College freshman post Kevin Knab (Lakewood) is the latest Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement came from the league office on Monday (Jan. 19) afternoon.
Knab, one of the Pioneers' four freshman starters, has battled back from an early-season hand injury to provide a stable presence inside the paint and was a key contributor in a pair of wins last week. He posted his first career double-double to lead Marietta to an 86-73 win at Mount Union College on Wednesday (Jan. 14). Knab, who finished 8-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, tallied a season-best 22 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. He followed up that performance with a 12-point, nine-rebound effort in the Pioneers’ 71-59 win over Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday (Jan. 17).
On the year, Knab ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.4 points in eight games. He has added 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 69.1% (38-of-55) from the field and 82.1% (23-of-28) from the free throw line.
Second-year Head Coach Jon VanderWal's Marietta squad (8-7, 3-5 OAC) is off to its best start since it was 11-4 at the 15-game mark of the 2001-02 season. That year, the Pioneers finished 13-13. |
