The Teams: Brevard (N.C.) College (4-2, 0-1 SAC), Emory & Henry (Va.) College (5-4, 0-2 ODAC), Marietta College (4-5, 1-3 OAC), Westminster (Pa.) College (1-9, 1-1 PAC).

The Coaches: Marietta’s Jon VanderWal, a 2001 graduate of Albion, is in his second year as the head coach of the Pioneers. Michael Jones is in his 10th season leading Brevard. Paul Russo is in his second season with Emory & Henry. Larry Ondako is in his sixth year at the helm of Westminster.

The Conferences: Four conferences are represented this weekend. The Pioneers compete in the tough Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Brevard, a NCAA Division II program, is from the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Emory & Henry is representing the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Westminster is a member of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Last Game for Brevard: The Tornados, who have not played in 23 days, are looking to bounce back from a 65-48 loss at Tusculum (Tenn.) on Dec. 6. Jonathan Whitson led Brevard with a double-double, his fourth of the year. He scored 15 points and added11 rebounds.

Tornado Players to Watch: Jonathan Whitson, Jr., F/C, 17.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg; Nathan Whitmire, Jr., G/F, 5.0 ppg, 2.3 apg; Darin Dellinger, Jr., G, 5.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg; Andrew Freeman, Jr., F/G, 7.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg; Joseph Chilton, Sr., F/C, 6.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg.

Last Game for Emory & Henry: The Wasps, who are also coming off a 23-day layoff, fell 111-99 on the road at Randolph Macon (Va.) on Dec. 6. Camillo Weinz and Kyle Huckins led Emory & Henry with 24 points and 23 points, respectively.

Wasp Players to Watch: Robert Hudson, Sr., G, 15.3 ppg, 3.2 spg; Kyle Huckins, Sr., F/C, 13.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg; Jarell Christian, Sr., G, 11.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg; JD Dyson, Jr., G, 10.9 ppg, 4.6 apg; Camillo Weinz, Sr., G, 10.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg.

Last Game for Marietta: The Pioneers earned their first OAC win of the season by holding off Heidelberg 70-69 in Tiffin on Dec. 20. Daun Lutes paced Marietta with a career-high 24 points, while Trevor Halter added 14 points, hitting the game-winner with 17 seconds to play.

Last Game for Westminster: The Titans snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 92-80 win over visiting Thomas More (Ky.) on Dec. 20. Ryne Murray paced Westminster with 20 points, while David Richards added 16 points.

Titan Players to Watch: Ryne Murray, Jr., F, 20.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg; Steve Bielich, Jr., C/F, 14.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg; Bobby Glass, Sr., G, 9.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg; Rob Briggs, Fr., F, 7.4 ppg, 7.6 rpg; David Richards, Sr., G, 6.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg.

Up Next for the Pioneers: Marietta will return to Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday (Jan. 7) when it visits Muskingum for a tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Hall of Fame Tickets on Sale: Five former Pioneer athletes representing four sports from the 1980s and 1990s will be inducted into the Marietta College Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 26th class on Feb. 7. The ceremony will once again highlight the Winter Weekend festivities. This year’s inductees are men’s soccer standout Doug Lessing ’84, All-American shortstop Monte Duncan ’85, two-time All-American pitcher Brent Frafjord ’94, two-time All-American running back Danté Brown ’98 and two-time All-Region pitcher Sally Friend ’98.
