Gowdy and Johnson increase lead in race for Fall Pairs Rowing League championship

MARIETTA, Ohio - The second race of the 10th annual Fall Pairs Racing League was held Wednesday (Oct. 6) on the water of the Muskingum.

The 2003 champion pair of Chuck Gowdy (Egg Harbor, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Rob Johnson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) extended its lead with a second straight first-place finish with a time of 41:40. They now have a league-high 28 points after two events.

The race, an 11 kilometer stretch from the boat ramp to the House of Wines buoy and back to the boathouse, had a stroke cap of 18 strokes per minute.

Evan Tsourtsoulas (Kastoria, Greece) and Matt Henwood (Malvern, PA/LaSalle) once again finished in a close second, three seconds off the winning pace and now have 22 points.

A total of 18 boats competed in the second of league's seven races, which will conclude with the Fall Pairs Championship Saturday (Nov. 13).

The third leg of the race is scheduled for Saturday (Oct. 9) at as a part of the Homecoming festivities.
