MC rowing prepares for Homecoming weekend
Oct. 7, 2004
MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College Rowing program has announced its
plans for Homecoming Saturday (Oct. 9).
Activities will kick off at the Lindamood/VanVoorhis Boathouse at 8:10
a.m. with the christening of the Coach Joe Tewkesbury '70 four-man
racing shell.
Jon Florer '78 will introduce the Adopt-An-Oar program at 8:20 a.m.
Oars will be presented to all donors of that program.
At 8:30, MC rowing will christen the Jim Stephens Memorial Docks. The
dedication of the docks was originally scheduled to take place prior to
the 10th annual Marietta Invitational Regatta, April 3, 2004, but
flooding of the Muskingum forced the event to be moved to Athens and
the dedication was postponed until Homecoming 2004. Mayor Michael Mullen
will present a special proclamation.
Following the dedication, the Navy Blue & White alumni will race the
Pioneer freshmen in a race in which the alums of the 1970's will make
up the rules.
The House of WINnErS race will also take place Saturday, which is the
third of a series of pairs races that take place throughout the fall.
Rounding out events at the Boathouse is a Tiki Torch Party on the
River, scheduled at 7 p.m. All alumni, parents and friends of rowing
are invited. Refreshments will be provided by MC Friends of Rowing and
the Adopt An Oar Program.
The first 40 Alumni who register will receive a commemorative T-Shirt -
"The older we get, the faster we were." Marietta College Rowing Gear
will be available for purchase at the
boathouse.
