Race three of Fall Pairs Rowing League held Saturday

MARIETTA, Ohio - The third race of the 10th annual Fall Pairs Racing League was held Saturday (Oct. 9) on the water of the Muskingum as part of the 2004 Homecoming festivities at the Lindamood/VanVoorhis Boathouse.

Overall points leaders Chuck Gowdy (Egg Harbor, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Rob Johnson (Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) were challenged by the pair of Evan Tsourtsoulas (Kastoria, Greece) and Matt Henwood (Malvern, PA/LaSalle) Saturday. Gowdy and Johnson had a two second lead on the way up the course (18:45.00), but Tsourtsoulas and Henwood fought back to cross the line with the same final time (40:55.00). After three races, Gowdy and Johnson lead Tsourtsoulas and Henwood 41 to 36 in the points standings.

The race, an 11 kilometer stretch from the boat ramp to the House of Wines buoy and back to the boathouse, had a stroke cap of 18 strokes per minute.

A season low 13 boats competed in this race, since two Freshman Eight shells raced alumni earier in the morning.

The fourth installment of the Fall Pairs Racing League, which will conclude Saturday (Nov. 13) with the Falls Pair Championship, is scheduled for Wednesday (Oct. 13).
