Coach Bancheri to speak at USRowing National Convention

MARIETTA, Ohio - Marietta College men's crew coach John Bancheri has been selected to present at the USRowing National Convention in Miami Beach, FL on Dec. 4, 2004.

Bancheri, who joined MC's staff in 1994, has developed the Pioneer Navy into one of the nation's best small school crew programs. He will present his paper on "The Sequencing of Technical Drills during the Shaping Process" to coaches from all over the country who congregate for this annual event.

"This has been one of my dreams in coaching," said Bancheri. "I always believed a successful coach is a successful teacher and the opportunity to teach other coaches is one of the most exciting things I have ever had an opportunity to do in my professional career."

Bancheri has spoken at numerous clinics throughout the Midwest, but this will be his first chance to do it at the national level.

"John's continued success over the years and his dedication to the sport of rowing makes him a perfect fir for this year's event," said Jody Pope, USRowing Convention Coordinator. "The information is exactly what our coaches have been requesting and will fit nicely with our National Team Coaches seminars as well as our keynote speaker, Bob Ernst."

Bancheri's paper deals with the Technical Acquisition Phase and the drills used to help athletes develop from the rough to more finite skills acquisition over the course of the yearly periodization plan. He will also discuss how it relates to Steve Fairbairn's "Four Points to Good Rowing", which are timing, control, balance and touch. Fairbairn was the coach at Oxford at the turn of last century.

"This opportunity speaks volumes for all of those clinics I have attended, all the coaches and athletes that have influenced me and to re-affirm the work that was so worthwhile that i did toward completion of my Master's degree."
