Two current and former oarsmen represent MC men at Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints

Jan. 29, 2005
Alexandria, VA - The Pioneer Navy had a great showing at the 2005 Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints Saturday (Jan. 29), as MC oarsmen captured four of the top 10 spots in the Men's Open.

Seth Meinzen (Overland Parks, KS/Pleasant Valley) rowed to a fourth place finish with a time of 6:14.1. Matt Hoffer (Vienna, VA/Langberg), a fellow 2004 graduate, finished right behind Meinzen with a time of 6:17.3.

Current Pioneers Karl Biermann (Akron/St. Vincent) and Brent Keuch (Skillman, NJ/Atlantic City) also placed in the top 10 for Marietta College. Biermann, a sophomore, erged to a time of 6:20.9 to place sixth, while Keuch (6:28.5) finished tenth in the event, which had 33 participants.

Meinzen and Hoffer announced after the event that they have set a goal to try out for one of the US National Teams' crews. Both were four-year letter winners for the Pioneers and members of the Varsity Eight that won three straight bronze medals at the Dad Vails.

Marietta rowing will prepare for its spring competition by competing at the 11th annual Ohio Valley Indoor Rowing Championships (Feb. 12) inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
