MARIETTA, Ohio - The Penn Athletic Club Rowing Association (PACRA) recently announced Marietta College’s men’s varsity rowing coach John Bancheri as the intermediate/senior heavyweight men’s head coach for the summer of 2005.
Bancheri, who has been with Marietta since 1994, joins one of the most competitive rowing camps for senior and intermediate college rowers in the nation, offering high technical levels of coaching and intense competition.
“I am honored to be offered this appointment,” said Bancheri. “Penn AC has a great history and I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach these great athletes.”
Assisting Bancheri, will be Dana Schmunk, who is currently the girl’s varsity crew coach at Shipley School in Philadelphia, PA. Schmunk is also an elite oarsman who won a silver medal at the
2003 World Championships.
The rowing camp is scheduled to take place from June 16 through August 6. The main events of competition include the Independence Day Regatta and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
PACRA has produced more than 398 regatta entries, over 159 victories and holds nine Schuylkill Navy rowing records, the highest winning rate of any club in the United States.
PACRA has had athletes represent the United States in nine Olympic games, including a recent gold medal finish in the 2004 Games held in Athens, Greece. |
