Men's Rowing sweeps MACRA regatta

ATHENS, Ohio - The Marietta College men's rowing program continued to build momentum heading into next week's Dad Vails by sweeping all four of the events it entered at the 2005 Mid American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) regatta. The event, which was raced on Dow Lake in Athens, featured Grand Valley (MI), Ohio University, Cleveland State, Duquesne (PA), John Carroll and Northwestern (IL).
The Pioneer Navy took home convincing victories in the Freshman/Novice Eight, Lightweight Four, JV/Lightweight Eight and Varsity Eight Saturday.
The Freshman/Novice Eight boat, which sat from bow Dan Schall, Matt Cascaddan, Peter Seymour, Tom Gray, Brent Wright, Justin Callaham, Alex DelSordo stroke David McIntire and coxswain Tim Rinehart, out raced two Grand Valley boats and an Ohio University shell. The Pioneers finished with a time of 6:39.03.
Marietta's lightweight four, which included bow Steve DiPardo, Chris Engler, Charles Reynolds, stroke David Himes and coxswain Kristen Sukolsky, finished the race in 7:44.8, defeating Duquesne (7:58.75) and Northwestern (8:07.76).
The 2nd Varsity Eight rowed to a time of 6:46.6 to win its race over Ohio (7:08.00) and Grand Valley (7:16.3). Members of that boat included bow Andy Coniglio, Eric Dowler, Chase Graham, Jon Carlon, Brent Keuch, Steve Wynne, Peter Lorenz, stroke Chuck Geyer and coxswain Joe Lincke.
The Varsity Eight took first place by 42 seconds in its event, finishing with a time of 6:35.23. Grand Valley (7:17.03) was the closest boat to the Pioneers. The Varsity Eights sits from bow Kyle Fitzgerald, Matt Henwood, Karl Biermann, Evan Tsourtsoulas, Mark Dolson, Mike Ross, Rob Johnson stroke Chuck Gowdy and coxswain Devin Ohman.
Marietta next race will be the one it works toward all season, the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Racing begins Friday (May 13) and concludes on Saturday (May 14).
