Marietta men claim two bronze medals at Dad Vails

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Pioneer Navy earned two bronze medals on Championship Day (May 14) of the 2005 Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
Marietta's Varsity Eight (6:17.48) finished third behind Michigan (6:12.27) and Florida Tech (6:15.76) in the regatta's main event. The Pioneer Navy, who entered as the top seed, jumped out to a fast start to take an early lead, but when the Wolverines made a move, Marietta could not counter. Florida Tech was able to make a late charge to pass the Pioneers before they crossed the finish line. It is the fourth straight season Head Coach John Bancheri's squad has finished in third place at Dad Vails.
The Varsity Eights sits from bow Kyle Fitzgerald, Matt Henwood, Karl Biermann, Evan Tsourtsoulas, Mark Dolson, Mike Ross, Rob Johnson, stroke Chuck Gowdy and coxswain Devin Ohman.
The Pioneers' Freshman/Novice Eight also won a bronze medal, as the shell crossed the finish in 6:37.27, just behind Purdue (6:33.34) and Colgate (6:34.51). Marietta was the defending champion in this event.
The Freshman/Novice Eight boat sits from bow Dan Schall, Matt Cascaddan, Peter Seymour, Tom Gray, Brent Wright, Justin Callaham, Alex DelSordo stroke David McIntire and coxswain Tim Rinehart.
Marietta's Junior Varsity Eight took sixth place in their Grand Final, which was won by St. Joseph's (6:23.36) earlier in the afternoon. The Pioneers finished the race in 6:36.83.
The Pioneer Navy's Junior Varsity Eight includes bow Andy Coniglio, Eric Dowler, Chase Graham, Jon Carlon, Brent Keuch, Steve Wynne, Peter Lorenz, stroke Chuck Geyer and coxswain Joe Lincke.
St. Joseph's won the men's points trophy with 27 points. Marietta finished third in the team points competition, combining with the women, who took home a silver medal in the Varsity Eight, to total 24 points.
