Marietta' Varsity Eight takes fourth at Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Marietta College men's rowing team had a solid showing Saturday (Oct. 29) at the 36th annual Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, largest one-day regatta in the world.

The Varsity Eight boat, which consists of coxswain Devin Ohman, Matt Henwood, Evan Tsourtsoulas, Mike Ross, Matt Hoffer, Devin Whitney, Chase Graham, Chuck Geyer and bow Zach Stimart, rowed to a fourth-place finish in their event. Marietta crossed the line in 12:14.06, the second fastest collegiate crew and just ahead of Temple (12:14.13). The New York Athletic Club defended its title for a year ago, taking first place with a time of 11:55.64. The Pennsylvania Athletic Club (12:11.97) and Marist College (12:13.86) rounded out the top three finishers in the 24-boat field.

Former Marietta College standouts Luke Agnini and Andrew Bolton were also in the event. Agnini rowed with the PAC, while Bolton was a member of the NYAC. Both boats are comprised of elite rowers, many with national team experience.

In other action, the Marietta College Varsity Four took home second place in the Open Four event. The shell which included coxswain Tim Rinehart, Jon Carlon, Karl Bierman, Tom Gray and bow Eric Dowler, finished in 13:0.26. George Washington (13:41.17) captured first place, while the Riverside Boat Club (14:00.29) placed third.

Marietta's Freshmen/Novice Eight — coxswain Lydia Easterling, Mitch Paskawych, Brian Casto, Andrew Norris, Austin McIntire, Craig Ripski, Mark Hirschfeld, Braden Sanner and bow Jon Waldman — rowed to a 12th place finish in the Kristopher Stewart Memorial, crossing the line in 13:27.29. Princeton (12:27.85), Penn (12:35.07) and Princeton B (12:43.59) were the first three to the finish in the event.
 
In addition, the duo of Brent Keuch and Dave Himes finished eighth in the Men's Pair race. The team finished in 15:34.50.
