Marietta College rowing set to host 12th annual Ohio Valley Indoor Rowing Championships

Feb. 10, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio – On Saturday (Feb. 11), the Marietta College men and women’s rowing programs are teaming up to host the 12th annual Ohio Valley Indoor Rowing Championships inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

Activity begins at 8 a.m. with registration and the 18 events run through 2:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. All races are 2,000m, except the coxswain sprints, which are shorter.

"Considering the winter training that we did both on the ergometers and during the week on the water in Florida, I am confident about the fitness level of our team and am looking forward to seeing how the guys will perform in their first race setting of the spring season," said Head Men’s Coach Chris Pucella.

Saturday’s competition is expected to feature West Virginia, Denison and Marietta rowers as well as many of the local high schools.

"The ladies have working very hard since starting the spring season, four days ago," said Head Women’s Coach Karen Glowacki. "They're a little tired and sore right now, but this is a tough, determined group of women. Look for the Pioneers to match or beat previous ‘personal best’ times. It should be a good day of racing for the Pioneer Navy."

Last year, over 140 athletes, representing eight organizations competed in 21 events. Assistant Women’s Coach Emily Crandall, who is organizing the event, is expecting similar numbers this year. Complete results, as well as a MC recap will be posted after the event.
