Pioneer Navy named top seed at SIRAs
Prelims set for Friday, while racing concludes Saturday

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's rowing program will spend its Easter weekend (Apr. 14-15) racing at the 39th Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship (SIRAs) in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Prelims at Melton Hill Lake are set to begin Friday afternoon with semifinals and finals slated for Saturday morning.

Marietta was scheduled to enters its usual boats into the Championship, but an illness has forced the realignment of the boats. As a result, the JV Eight will not be competing. Instead, the Pioneers will race a Varsity Four and Varsity Pair along with the Varsity Eight and Freshmen/Novice Four.

The Varsity Eight, who was given the top seed at the event this season and placed second in 2005, will go head-to-head with Ohio, Texas, Tulane and Savannah College of Art & Design in its opening race. FIT, Dayton, Jacksonville, Rollins and Clemson make up heat two, while Virginia, Purdue, Grand Valley, Cincinnati and Florida will race in the third prelim.
