Pioneer Navy continues to earn national recognition
Marietta College receives votes in sixth straight USRowing poll

May 10, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — The weekly USRowing Collegiate Poll was released Wednesday (May 10) and for the sixth straight week, Marietta College received votes in the poll, which ranks the top 20 men's Varsity Eights in the nation.

The Pioneers have yet to crack into the top 20 this season, but are the highest ranked Dad Vail school and second highest DIII school in the poll.

Marietta's Varsity Eight is looking to snap a 38-year drought and claim it sixth gold medal this weekend (May 12-13) when it competes in the 68th annual Dad Vail Championship on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The Pioneer Navy have finished with the bronze in each of the last four years.

The Pioneers are sending a Varsity Eight, Varsity Pair, Varsity Lightweight Four and Freshman/Novice Four to the season-ending championship.

"We expect a large group of MC Alumni in Philadelphia to support the guys this weekend," said Pucella. "We plan to give all of them a great show."

Last year's Varsity Eight took the bronze medal at Dad Vails
