Men's Soccer falls 3-1 to John Carroll on Senior Day
Oct. 16 , 2004
MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College men's soccer team failed in its bid to win its first OAC game of the season, falling 3-1 to John Carroll Saturday (Oct. 16) at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Pioneers (3-6-2, 0-4-1 OAC) held an early 1-0 lead against the Blue Streaks (9-3, 4-1 OAC), but John Carroll scored three unanswered goals to pull out the 3-1 victory.
Junior Brad Maddox (Nitro, WV) scored his team-high third goal of the year in the 10th minute. Senior John Wheeler (Zanesville) picked up the assist, his first of the year.
Marietta was able to keep the 1-0 lead at the half thanks in part to the excellent goalkeeping of senior Adam Cervenka (Mentor), who stopped a Blue Streak penalty kick late in the period.
The John Carroll attack eventually got to Cervenka, when T.J. Kolba scored on another penalty kick. Dejan Mladenovic and Dusty Stelmak also scored in the second half for the Blue Streaks, who out-shot the Pioneers 26-9 in the win.
Cervenka made 14 saves on the day, while his counterpart, Brett Eyring had two.
Marietta will return to action Wednesday (Oct. 20) when they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein at 4 p.m. |
