Pioneers pick up 3-0 victory over Raiders in home finale

MARIETTA, Ohio - Finally, the men's soccer team can celebrate a conference victory thanks to a 3-0 win over Mount Union Tuesday (Oct. 26) night at Don Drumm Stadium in the final home game for the ten Pioneer seniors on the 2004 squad.

Marietta (4-8-2, 1-6-1 OAC) took control early with two goals in the first six minutes. Senior Marcos Vaca (Friendswood, TX) scored the first goal, his third of the year and 17th of his career, on a free kick just outside the box in the fourth minute.

Junior Brad Maddox (Nitro, WV) followed exactly two minutes later with his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Senior Ray Kurek (Friendswood, TX/Clear Brook) picked up the assist, his first of the year.

Sophomore Shawn Urbanek (Doylestown/Chippewa) scored the final goal on a penalty kick after he was tackled in the box. The goal was the first of the season for Urbanek.

Pioneer goalkeeper Adam Cervenka (Mentor) faced 15 shots and picked up nine saves in the victory. The senior now has 261 career saves and 14 shutouts. The 14 shutouts ranks third all-time on for a Pioneer keeper.

Marietta will close out the season on the road in Columbus when they take on Capital Friday (Oct. 29) at 3 p.m.
