Marietta men fall 3-1 in season opener

Sept. 3, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio – Newcomer Carlos Recchia (Brazil) scored a goal on an assist from senior Brad Maddox (Nitro, WV), but it wasn’t enough as Kenyon defeated head coach Pat Holguin's Marietta team in the opening round of the 2005 MC Soccer Classic Saturday (Sept. 3) at Marietta Field.

The Lords were able to string together two first half goals to take a 2-0 lead at intermission. Marietta pulled within one on Recchia’s goal with 41:22 left in the game. Kenyon, however, added a goal mid-way through the final half to win 3-1.

Freshman goal keeper Brian Bugge (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) faced 10 shots on the afternoon and made seven saves in his first collegiate game.

Kenyon’s Elliot Forhan had 13 saves and faced 19 shots in the win.

Marietta will return to action Sunday (Sept. 4) when they take on the loser of Lakeland (WI) versus Pitt-Greensburg (PA) at 1 p.m. Kenyon will await the winner in the championships game at 3 p.m.
