| Second half explosion leads Marietta to 7-0 victory in MC Classic consolation game
Lakeland (WI) wins championship with 2-1 overtime victory

MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College head coach Patrick Holguin men's soccer team showcased some of its offensive fire power en route to a 7-0 victory in Sunday's (Sept. 4) MC Classic consolation game against Pitt-Greensburg.
On Sunday, fans saw a glimpse of the excitement that the talented young players bring to the field. Following a scoreless first 53 minutes, Marietta offense awoke to score seven goals in the final 37 minutes.
Sophomore Joel Nau (Marietta) started things off with a goal, his first as a collegiate player, with 36:58 to play to give MC a 1-0 advantage. Nau was assisted by freshman Carlos Recchia (Brazil). Recchia followed his assist with two straight goals to extend the lead to 3-0. Senior Brad Maddox (Nitro, WV) and sophomore Josh Mains (Trafford, PA) each had an assist on a Recchia goal.
Sophomore Mike Sanchez (Pasadena, TX/Deer Park) joined the scoring in the 67th minute with his first goal of the year off an assist from freshman Drew Craig (Slippery Rock).
Freshman Felix Ntow (Columbus/Mifflin) took over in the final 18 minutes, sandwiching two goals with an assist to cap the scoring for Marietta. Albert Kamara (Columbus/Mifflin) assisted Ntow, as did Maddox. Senior Nick Tunnell (Parkersburg, WV/South) converted Ntow's pass for his first goal of the year.
Freshman goal keepers Brian Bugge (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) and Jordan Slavin (Parkersburg, WV/South) each played a half to combine for the shutout. Bugge finished with two saves, while Slavin had five in the victory, his first of the year.
Lakeland (WI) needed overtime, but a goal off a corner kick midway through the extra period gave the Muskies a 2-1 victory in Sunday's championship game against Kenyon.
Marietta will return to action Wednesday (Sept. 7) when it travels to Pittsburgh, PA to take on Carnegie Mellon in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
