Pioneers reach .500 mark with shutout victory at Allegheny (PA)
Joel Nau scores lone goal in win

Sept. 17, 2005
MEADVILLE, PA – It came in the 54th minute, but it was all that was needed to give Marietta men's soccer team a 1-0 road victory against host Allegheny (PA) Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon. It , refers to the goal by sophomore Joel Nau (Marietta) off an assist from sophomore Mike Sanchez (Pasadena, TX/Deer Park).

The victory improved the Pioneers' record to 3-3 on the year, while Allegheny fell to 1-3-2 overall.

The Gators controlled the ball for most of the contest, out shooting Marietta 26-7, but it only takes one shot finding the back of the net to make a difference and Nau's shot did just that.

For Nau, it was his second goal of the year, while Sanchez picked up his first assist in 2005.

Freshman goalkeepers Jordan Slavin (Parkersburg, WV/South) and Brian Bugge (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) combined for the shutout.

Marietta will return to action Saturday (Sept. 24) when they play host to Bluffton on Marietta Field at 3 p.m.
