Marietta men lose final road game of the year 5-1 to Mount Union
Pioneers close out regular season at home Saturday against Capital at 2 p.m.

Oct. 26, 2005
ALLIANCE, Ohio - Sophomore Joel Nau (Marietta) scored his fourth goal of the season Wednesday (Oct. 26), but it was not nearly enough, as Marietta fell 5-1 to host Mount Union.

With the loss, Marietta falls to 6-10 overall and 1-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while Mount Union improves to 7-9-1, 1-6-1 in the league.

The Raiders scored three goals between the 22nd and 28th minute to build a large advantage.

Nau put the Pioneers on the board when he scored off an assist from senior Brad Maddox (Nitro, W.Va.) in the 87th minute, but the Raiders responded with two goals in the final two minutes to roll to the 5-1 win. The assist was Maddox's fourth of the season and tenth of his career.

Freshmen Jordan Slavin (Parkersburg, W.Va./South) and Steven Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) split time in goal for Marietta. Slavin allowed three goals and made one save in the first half, while Hagenau came off the bench to allow two scores and make nine saves in the final 45 minutes.

Marietta will close out its season Saturday (Oct. 29) when they welcome Capital to Marietta Field. The Senior Day kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. Maddox and fellow senior Nick Tunnell (Parkersburg, W.Va./South) will be honored after the game for their accomplishments over the last four seasons.
