Pioneers fall 4-1 to Richard Stockton in season opener at MC Soccer Classic

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College men's soccer team ran into some tough competition, falling to Richard Stockton (N.J.) 4-1 on day one of the MC Soccer Classic Saturday (Sept. 2) at Don Drumm Stadium.

The Ospreys (1-0) scored two goals in the first 4:06 to get the Pioneers (0-1) on its heels. Marietta pulled within one goal, 2-1, when freshman Kyle Muth (Twinsburg) found the back of the net following a pass from sophomore Felix Ntow (Columbus/Mifflin) with 23:55 left in the first half.

Richard Stockton, however, added third first half goal and then another in the second half on a penalty kick to cruise to the 4-1 victory.

Marietta was out shot 14-7 in the loss.

Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic), who suffered the loss, faced eight shots in the first half and made five saves. Tad Cochran (Westerville/Worthington Christian) tended goal in the second half and made three saves.

Four different Ospreys scored goals in the victory. Goalkeeper Matt Hart made six saves in the win.

Marietta returns to action Sunday (Sept. 3) when it takes on Juniata (Pa.) in the consolation game at 11 a.m. Richard Stockton will take on Hiram in the finals at 3 p.m. The Terriers defeated the Eagles 3-1 in the first men's game of the Tournament.
