Marietta struggles to convert chances in 3-0 loss to No. 16 Allegheny (Pa.)
Pioneers shutout for second time in 2006

Sept. 16, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio – You could visibly see the frustration in the eyes of the Marietta College men's soccer team Saturday (Sept. 16), as it once again let good opportunities slip away in a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Allegheny (Pa.).

Marietta, who fell to 1-5 on the year was out shot 12-to-3 in the loss. The Pioneers fell behind early, when the Gators (6-0-1) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game.

From there, Marietta's defense settled down and the chances began to pile up for its offense. Unfortunately, none of them came to fruition.

Marietta sophomore goalkeeper Tad Cochran (Westerville/Worthington Christian) was touched up for two goals in the first half, while making three saves.

Sophomore Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) worked the final 45 minutes and made six saves. He did allow one goal.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday (Sept. 23), when they visit Bluffton for a 3 p.m. non conference game.
