No. 23 Baldwin-Wallace spoils Marietta men's Homecoming afternoon with a 2-0 victory

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's team hoped to complete a doubleheader soccer sweep against Baldwin-Wallace on Homecoming, but the No. 23 Yellow Jackets proved too much for the Pioneers and won the game 2-0.

With the win, Baldwin-Wallace improves to 12-1-1 overall and 4-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta falls to 2-11 on the year and 0-5 in the OAC. It has now lost six straight contests.

Baldwin-Wallace took a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute when Brian Sugerman scored his first goal of the year. The Yellow Jackets added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute, when a Marietta foul in the box set up a penalty kick opportunity. Todd Alexander took the kick, and converted to give Baldwin-Wallace the 2-0 victory.

Marietta managed just six shots, all in the first half. Four were by freshman midfielder Dan Cawley (Marietta).

Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic) got the start in goal for the Pioneers. He made seven saves and allowed one goal in the first half. Brian Bugge (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) work the second half, allowed one goal and made one save.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Oct. 18) when they travel to Columbus to take on Capital at 4 p.m.
