Marietta men closes out their soccer season

WILMINGTON, Ohio – For the second straight game, Marietta
College sophomore Brad Baweja (Kentwood, Mich./East
Kentwood) scored a late goal to break up the shutout in a 3-1 Ohio
Athletic Conference loss for the Pioneers. On Tuesday (Oct. 24),
host Wilmington was on the positive end of the two-goal differential.
With the loss, Marietta falls to 2-14 overall and 0-8 in the OAC.
Wilmington improved to 10-5-1, including 5-3 in league play.
The Quakers, who dominated the shot count 17-6, took a 1-0 lead
in the 18th minute when Phil Walter scored on a
header. Wilmington's Pierre Larsson beat the keeper
for a goal in the 65th minute to make the score 2-0.
A Pioneer foul in the box in the 85th minute set up Wilmington's
final goal when J.R. Barnhart converted the penalty
kick.
Marietta finally got on the board in the 89th minute. Sophomore
Drew Craig (Slippery Rock, Pa.) picked up the assist
when Baweja beat the keeper for his second goal of the year and
second in as many games.
Steve Hagenau (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic)
got the start for Marietta in goal and made six saves in 73-plus
minutes before giving way to Tad Cochran (Westerville/Thomas
Worthington) for the rest of the game. Hagenau allowed two goals,
while Cochran gave up the penalty kicks goal.
Marietta closes out its season on Saturday (Oct. 28) night when
it travels to University Heights for a 7 p.m. showdown with John
Carroll University.
