Marietta men battle Mount Union to a scoreless tie
Pioneers now 1-2-1 in the OAC

ALLIANCE, Ohio — A save from Pioneer sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Gray (Marietta) in the final seconds of double overtime preserved a 0-0 tie between Ohio Athletic Conference foes Marietta College and host Mount Union College Wednesday (Oct. 10) night.

With the tie, Marietta improved to 5-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the OAC. Mount Union improved to 4-6-2 overall and 0-2-2 in league play.

The Purple Raiders controlled the ball for much of the first half, out-shooting the Pioneers 7-2 in the first 45 minutes. Marietta then out-shot Mount Union 7-4 over the next 55 minutes. Both teams had three saves in the final overtime. Overall, Mount Union finished with 14 shots and Marietta had 12. Both teams had five shots on goal.

Gray, who had five saves, moved his record to 4-2-1 on the year. Matt Mazzolini also had five saves in the game for the Purple Raiders.

Marietta is back in action Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon when it plays host to Baldwin-Wallace College at 3 p.m. It will be the second game of a men and women’s doubleheader. The women play at 1 p.m. All of the action will take place at Marietta Field.
