Marietta's Adedapo named All-Region in men's soccer
Sophomore becomes first Pioneer to earn honor since 1997

Jan. 9, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — Even though the Marietta College men's soccer season has been over since late October, one of Head Coach Pat Holguin's players earned a prestigious postseason honor this week, as sophomore Delè Adedapo (Gahanna/Bexley) was named to the D3Kicks.com All-Great Lakes Region Team. The defender earned third team honors. Adedapo is the fifth Pioneer since 1977 to receive All-Region honors and the first since George Threatt in 1997.

Adedapo, who transferred from The Ohio State University this fall, made an immediate impact in his first year with the Pioneers. The defender tied for second on the team with four goals and added one assist to finish with nine points in 2007. Three of Adedapo's goals were game-winners, including a double overtime shot against John Carroll that secured Marietta's berth into the OAC Tournament. A member of the Penn State-Altoona All-Tournament team, he also became the fourth first team All-OAC honoree that Holguin has coached during his 10-year tenure with the men's team.

Marietta, who finished 8-8-2, earned just its second OAC Tournament berth in school history in 2007. The Pioneers went 4-4-1 in the OAC, winning their last three games to secure the spot in the six-team tournament.
