MARIETTA, Ohio — Even though the Marietta College men's soccer season has been over since late October, one of Head Coach Pat Holguin's players earned a prestigious postseason honor this week, as sophomore Delè Adedapo (Gahanna/Bexley) was named to the D3Kicks.com All-Great Lakes Region Team. The defender earned third team honors. Adedapo is the fifth Pioneer since 1977 to receive All-Region honors and the first since George Threatt in 1997.
Adedapo, who transferred from The Ohio State University this fall, made an immediate impact in his first year with the Pioneers. The defender tied for second on the team with four goals and added one assist to finish with nine points in 2007.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2007 Academic All-OAC men's soccer winners Tuesday (Nov. 20) morning and Marietta College senior defender Rob Vazquez (Euclid) earned Academic All-OAC.
Vazquez played and started in 16 of the team's 17 games in 2007. As one of the middlemen on the team's flat back line, he played a key role in the defense's five shutouts. In the classroom, Vazquez maintains a 3.49 grade point average as a petroleum engineering major.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team's season came to an end Monday (Oct. 29) afternoon with a 2-1 loss to host John Carroll University in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament.
The third-seeded Blue Streaks (10-8) avenged Saturday's 2-1 double overtime loss to the sixth-seeded Pioneers (8-8-2) and advanced to the semifinals against second-seeded Heidelberg on Wednesday (Oct. 31).

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College, making its second ever appearance in the Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer Tournament, will have the tall task ahead of itself. The Pioneers will try to knock off John Carroll, one of the league's best, twice in the span of three days.
The Pioneers (8-7-2) needed three straight wins, including a 3-2 double overtime victory at home against the Blue Streaks (9-8) on Saturday, to earn the sixth seed in the OAC Tournament. Marietta, who last made the OAC Tournament in 1997, has never won an OAC playoff game.
The winner of Monday's 2 p.m. contest will visit second seeded Heidelberg for a semifinal game Wednesday (Oct. 31) afternoon at 2 p.m.

The Pioneers (7-7-2, 3-4-1 OAC) kept their hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over visiting Wilmington College (7-9-1, 3-4-1 OAC) at Marietta Field.
Sophomore Alan Porter (Marietta) scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute, and Marietta's defense played another solid 90 minutes to preserve the victory.

Instead, Capital escaped with the 3-2 victory.
The Pioneers (5-7-2, 1-4-1 OAC) appeared to have won the game in the 102nd minute, when senior Joel Nau (Marietta) drilled a rebound into the back of the net. Unfortunately, a Marietta player was whistled for being offside, negating the play.

returning to action after a nine-day layoff, battled host Walsh

ALTOONA, Pa. — A pair of second half goals from Tournament MVP Bryan Pierzga broke open a 1-1 tie and allowed Penn State-Altoona (Pa.) to claim a 3-1 victory over the Marietta College men's soccer team in the championship game of the Challenge Cup Sunday (Sept. 16) afternoon.
The loss was just Marietta's second in seven games and brings its record to 4-2-1. Penn State-Altoona improved to 6-1 after capturing its third straight Challenge Cup crown.

continued its early-season success with a 1-0 overtime win against
Albright (Pa.) College in the first round of the Penn State-Altoona
Challenge Cup. The win improves the Pioneers record to 4-1-1, while
the Lions drop to 1-3-1.
The match saw chances from both sides in the first 90 minutes of
play but neither team yielded a goal. It only took another two and
half minutes for the Pioneers to finally break the barrier and secure
their fourth win of the season. Senior midfielder Joel Nau
(Marietta) finished the game with a left-footed volley just inside

College for a non conference game. The unfamiliar scenery failed to slow down the Pioneers' offense, however, as they won 3-2.
The victory improves Marietta's record to 3-1-1 on the season. Bethany falls to 3-3.

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team went head-to-head with The College of Wooster in a rare game under the lights of Don Drumm Stadium Saturday (Sept. 8) night.
While the setting sun took with it the heat of the day, the intensity on the field radiated throughout the stadium long after dark. A large crowd witnessed a very physical game, in which Wooster was able to pull out the 2-1 victory. With the win, the Fighting Scots improved to 1-2, while the Pioneers fell to 2-1-1.

Marietta, who averaged just 1.1 goals in 2006, got another offensive explosion from its front line players. The Pioneers rattled off 25 shots, 12 on goal, while holding the Yellow Jackets to just eight, four of which were on goal.

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Pioneers' men's soccer team took the field, the first time this season, against Rochester (Mich.) College Saturday (Sept. 1) evening in the final game of day one at the Marietta College Soccer Classic at Marietta Field. Both teams battled for 110 minutes only for the game to end in a 1-1 tie. However, since it was a tournament, penalty kicks decided who would advance to Sunday's championship game. The Warriors did just that by winning the shootout 9-8.
Marietta (0-0-1) will now play Juniata (Pa.) College in the consolation game Sunday at 11 a.m., while Hiram College will take on Rochester in the finals at 3 p.m. Hiram defeated Juniata 4-2 earlier in the day.

Veteran Pioneers welcome a host of talented newcomers

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta, entering its 40th season as a varsity program and 10th under Head Coach Pat Holguin, will continue its rebuilding process in 2007. A youth-dominated squad showed its growing pains in 2006, but the Pioneers expect to see continuous improvement this fall.
Four seniors—Jim Eichhorn, Sergio Fajardo, Joel Nau and Michael Sanchez—will be asked to lead the 13 returning lettermen, who will be joined by as many as 25 newcomers, which feature a handful of transfers primed to make an immediate impact on the field.
