Marietta men's tennis opens season with 6-3 loss to visiting Waynesburg
Pioneers slated to begin OAC play on Saturday against Heidelberg

MARIETTA, Ohio — First-year Head Coach Andy Bucheit's Marietta College men's tennis team opened its 2009 season with a 6-3, non-conference loss to visiting Waynesburg (Pa.) University Wednesday (March 18) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center.

The Pioneers (0-1) earned one point when the team of junior Clint Perkins (St. Mary's W.Va.) and sophomore Sam Vincent (Parkersburg, W.Va.) won 8-5 at third singles. Waynesburg (1-2) won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Vincent added a 6-1, 6-3 victory at sixth singles to secure Marietta's second point, while sophomore Mike Carpenter (Parkersburg, W.Va.) secured the Pioneers' third point with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win at second singles. The Yellow Jackets, however, captured the four other points to secure the victory.

Marietta resumes its season on Saturday (March 21) morning when it opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against visiting Heidelberg University. The match will begin at 10 a.m.

Sophomore Sam Vincent won at both sixth singles and third doubles against Waynesburg.
