Pioneer men fall 7-2 to visiting Heidelberg in OAC tennis opener
Sam Vincent improves to 2-0 in singles play

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team opened 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a 7-2 loss to visiting Heidelberg University Saturday (March 21) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center. The loss dropped the Pioneers' record to 0-2, 0-1 in the OAC. The Student Princes improved to 2-1, 1-0 in league play.

Marietta earned its first point of the day with an 8-6 victory from junior Bruce Kitchens (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and sophomore Mike Carpenter (Parkersburg, W.Va.) at first doubles. Heidelberg won the remaining doubles points to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.

The Student Princes then wrapped up the match with wins in five of the six singles matches. Sophomore Sam Vincent (Parkersburg, W.Va.) won his match at six singles (6-2, 6-2) to improve to 2-0 on the spring.

Marietta is back in action on Monday (March 23) when the Pioneers continue OAC play against host John Carroll University. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
