Marietta College celebrates National Athletic Training month

Mar. 3, 2008
MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College, in conjunction with the National Athletic Trainers' Association [nata.org], is celebrating National Athletic Training Month throughout March. The Pioneers' varsity athletic teams are under the guidance of four Certified Athletic Trainers—Sam Crowther, Dave Marchetti, Jessica Rager and Fizzy Ramsey. These four individuals play an integral role in the success of the Marietta College athletic teams.

It is the 24th year that Marietta has had an Athletic Training program. The full-time staff members, who teach full workloads, cover not only the 18 varsity sports, but any other on-site competition, while also treating general student, faculty and staff injuries.

Certified Athletic Trainers are medical professionals specializing in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes and those engaged in physical activity.

Certified Athletic Trainers work in a variety of settings including: secondary school interscholastic athletic programs, intercollegiate athletic programs, professional athletic teams, corporate and industrial health programs, sports medicine clinics, physicians' offices, and health clubs.

Athletic Trainers are recognized by the American Medical Association as Allied Health Care Professionals. All Certified Athletic Trainers must graduate from an accredited institution and receive formal and clinical instruction in courses such as orthopedic evaluation, immediate emergency care, therapeutic exercise, injury prevention and risk management, therapeutic modalities and general medical conditions, among others.

A special thanks to the Marietta College Athletic Training Staff for the service you provide to our Athletic Department and Marietta College.
