MARIETTA, Ohio Marietta College officials are pleased to announce they have entered into a partnership with Stretch Internet (www.stretchinternet.com) to provide free live audio of College events over the Internet during the 2006-07 academic year.
As a bonus, fans of Pioneer athletics also have the ability to subscribe for free to a one-of-a-kind messaging service that allows them to receive game results and information on their cell phones and email.
Marietta's student radio station, WMRT, will simulcast all 10 football games this fall over the Internet and on the radio, including the season opener at Emory & Henry (Va.) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. WMRT also plans to broadcast other athletic games throughout the year, as well as College-sponsored events, such as choir performances and Commencement.
"By forging an affiliation with Stretch Internet and continuing a cooperative relationship with the student radio station, the College is able to provide its many fans a consistent location to listen to Pioneer Athletics and other campus events," said Tom Perry, director of College Relations. "For the first time in more than a decade all 10 Marietta College football games will be broadcast live. This is something our fans, alumni and parents have been asking for and we are pleased to be able to provide it this fall."
The athletic department also plans to work with Marietta commercial radio station WMOA to stream games it broadcasts. WMOA, which has served as the Voice of the Etta Express for close to four decades, will simulcast all MC baseball games, including early season trips to Georgia and Texas, as well as any postseason action.
The College also plans to stream other athletic events broadcast by both WMOA and WMRT throughout the year.
Marietta has streamed live audio over the Internet through WMOA and Marietta Online in the past, but partnering with Stretch Internet brings state-of-the-art technology, award winning technical support and for the first time ever an opportunity for fans to purchase archived copies of game broadcasts.
These new services are available to Marietta fans for free thanks to a partnership by Marietta College's Office of Alumni Relations and the Department of Athletics' M-Team program.
