Marietta College softball will host pitching clinic

Dec. 14, 2004
MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College is hosting a pitching clinic on Sunday, January 23, at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.  Amy Kyler, one of the premier pitching instructors in the state of Ohio will be the featured clinician.  A graduate of Cleveland State University, Kyler originally signed with the Akron Racers of the Women’s Professional Softball League. In 1999, Kyler helped lead the Racers to the Championship Semifinals of the WPSL. More recently, Kyler signed with the Sacramento Sunbirds of the newly formed National Professional Fastpitch League. Kyler spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Bowling Green before returning to her alma mater where she serves as an assistant coach. Kyler has served as a clinician at various camps and clinics throughout the Midwest.

Session I for beginners will be held from 8:30-10:00 a.m. and is designed for players interested in learning the basic mechanics of pitching. The motion will be broken down into basic steps with drills appropriate for sound fundamental development. This session is ideal for beginners and for any one who needs to brush up on the basics.

Session II for intermediate and advanced pitchers will be held from 10:30 – noon and will provide instruction on proper mechanics for the change-up, drop ball, rise ball, curve ball and screw ball.  Players who select this session should have mastery of the basic pitching motion. This session is most appropriate for players who have good command of the fastball and are ready to learn advanced pitches.

Cost per session is $25. Each pitcher must provide her own catcher. To register or for more information, contact Jeanne Arbuckle at (740) 376-4668.  Space is limited and advance registration would be appreciated. In addition to Kyler, current and former Pioneer players and coaches will be on hand to assist with the clinic.
