Lady Pioneers route Concordia (WI) for first
win of the spring

KISSIMMEE, Florida On a rainy day in northeast Florida, the
Marietta College softball team just missed picking up its first
win of the season in today's (Mar. 9) game against Greensboro (NC),
but bounced back from a 3-2 loss to the Pride with a convincing
11-2 victory over Concordia (WI).
The Lady Pioneers (1-5) got an outstanding performance on the mound
from sophomore Kristen Quintana (Denver, CO/Littleton) in
the win over Concordia. Quintana (1-2) scattered two runs on six
hits over seven innings. She battled tough weather conditions all
afternoon to strike out a career-high 11 batters in the win.
Concordia took a 2-0 advantage in the first inning. Marietta, however
used 11 hit to outscore its opponent 11-0 over the next six innings
to secure the win.
Four Lady Pioneers had two hits apiece. Jenny Carroll (Lisbon/Beaver
Local), finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs scored
and two RBI. In addition, Lindsey Romick (Hannibal/River)
went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI, Katie Moriarty
(North Canton/Hoover) added two hits and two RBI in three at-bats,
and Kelly Rucker (Rocky River) collected two hits, one runs
and two RBI in the win.
Marietta led 2-1 after five innings in its game against Greensboro,
but the Pride strung together three hits to score two runs with
two outs in the top of the sixth inning to take the one-run advantage
and held on to get the final six outs and pick up the win.
Amie Weis (Burlington, WI/Westosha Central) took the loss,
her third of the season. She allowed three runs (two earned) on
seven hit and struck out three in seven innings.
The Lady Pioneers finished with five hits to the Pride's seven;
Marietta committed two errors in the loss. Romick had two hits and
and RBI in the game.
Marietta will look to start a winning streak when it battles Coe
(IA) and the College of New Jersey Thursday (Mar. 10) morning in
Kissimmee, Florida.
