Lady Pioneers head home from spring break following 7-1 victory over Penn State-Behrend

Mar. 11, 2005
KISSIMMEE, Florida – The Lady Pioneers' softball team wrapped up its spring trip to the Rebel Spring Games with a 7-1 victory over Penn State-Behrend. Earlier in the morning, Marietta fell 5-0 to Indiana Wesleyan, ending its ten-game trip with a 2-8 record.

Marietta received solid pitching performances in both games today. Junior Amie Weis (Burlington, WI/Wetosha Central) bounced back from a shaky first inning, in which she allowed five runs, to limit Indiana Wesleyan to two hits over the next three innings. Weis finished with two strikeouts before giving way to junior Stephanie Houston (Newark/Licking Valley), who threw a perfect sixth and seventh for the Pioneers.

Coach Jeanne Arbuckle's squad finished with six hits, while Indiana Wesleyan had seven in game one.

Sophomore Kristen Quintana (Denver, CO/Littleton) picked up her second win of the spring with a complete game five hitter in Marietta's final game down south. Quintana struck out seven and allowed one run against PSU-Behrend.

The Lady Pioneers' offense gave Quintana support throughout the day, scoring at least one run in five of the six innings that they batted. Sophomore Jessy Hutchison (Reynoldsburg) finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Abby Higbie (Anchorage, AK/Service) and Houston each had two hits in the win.

Marietta will return to action next weekend (Mar. 18-19), when it travels to Salem, Virginia for the East Coast College FastPitch Classic.
