Marietta softball takes one of two on the road against John Carroll

Apr. 16, 2005
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Marietta College softball team improved its record to 13-18 overall and 7-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) by splitting a doubleheader against host John Carroll Saturday (Apr. 16). The Lady Pioneers scored a run in five of the seven innings en route to a 7-4 victory in game one. The Blue Streaks, however, quieted Marietta's bats in game two and came away with a 4-0 win to salvage a split on the day.

The Lady Pioneers were paced offensively in the first game by sophomore Lindsey Romick (Hannibal/River), who finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Brandy Jacob (Wellington/Keystone) and Katie Moriarty (North Canton/Hoover) each added two of Marietta's nine hits in the win.

Sophomore Kristen Quintana (Denver, CO/Littleton) improved to 11-5 on the year with a complete-game outing. Quintana allowed four runs on nine hits, while striking out five in the victory. Bridget Knazek suffered the loss, her fourth of the spring.

John Carroll's Kristin Platz kept Marietta's offense off balanced in the nightcap, scattering four hits, to improve to 5-4 on the year.

Stephanie Houston (Newark/Licking Valley) got the start for the Pioneers in game two and suffered the loss. Houston (2-6) allowed three runs on five hits, walked five and struck out three in 4.3 innings. Amie Weis (Burlington, WI/Westosha Central) finished the final 1.6 innings for Marietta, giving up one run on three hits.

Jessy Hutchison (Reynoldsburg) had two of Marietta's four hits in the loss.

The Lady Pioneers will look to stay in the race for one of the four bids to the OAC Tournament when they host Otterbein Tuesday (Apr. 19). First pitch for Marietta's last regular season home game is slated for 3:30 p.m.
