Marietta's Quintana earns her third OAC Pitcher of the Week honor of the year
Junior posted a pair of shutouts in final week of regular season

May. 1, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — In what has become a familiar occurrence this spring, Marietta College junior pitcher Kristen Quintana (Denver, Colo./Littleton) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Pitcher of the Week. The announcement came Monday (May 1) from the league office. It is the third time this season that Quintana has picked up the weekly honor.

The Pioneers (31-9, 12-6 OAC) are having their best season in history and are currently ranked No. 13 nationally at the end of the regular season. Marietta finished in second place in the OAC and is now preparing for Friday's (May 5) OAC Tournament opener against third-seeded Mount Union, a team it swept earlier in the season.

Quintana posted a pair of shutout victories last week, including a 12-inning, two-hit performance against Capital to help clinch the second seed for MC in the OAC Tournament. The win gave her 18 on the year and set a new school record. In 18 innings of work on the week, Quintana tallied 16 strikeouts, scattered eight hits, gave up a walk and didn't allow a run.

In addition to her record-breaking win, Quintana also finished the regular season with a school record 10 shutouts, 162.6 innings pitched, 195 strikeouts and 30 appearances. Quintana is now second all-time in wins (37) and strikeouts (374) at Marietta.

Again, the Pioneers will begin their run at an OAC Tournament Championship on Friday at 11 a.m. against the Purple Raiders. The game will be carried live on WMOA-AM 1490 and mariettaonline.com.
