Marietta's Quintana named top OAC pitcher for second straight week
Senior broke career shutout record last week

March 26, 2007
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Marietta College softball team is just two weeks into its season, and senior pitcher Kristen Quintana (Denver, Colo./Littleton) has already earned a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Pitcher of the Week honors. The announcement came Monday (March 26) afternoon from the league office.

For Quintana, the reigning OAC Pitcher of the Year, it was the fifth time in the last two seasons that she earned the weekly award.

Last week, Quintana appeared in four games, went 2-0 and did not allow a run in 16 1/3 innings. The right-hander scattered 11 hits, struck out 25 and walked just one.

This season, Quintana is 8-1 with a 0.76 earned run average in 59 innings of work. She has allowed five runs on 35 hits, walked seven and fanned 91 in 11 appearances. Quintana also has seven complete games.

On Sunday (March 25) afternoon, Quintana broke the school's career shutout record (20) and increased her school record for wins (47) with a 1-0 victory over Bethany (W.Va.). She is also rapidly approaching the career records for appearances (has 90 and record is 95), complete games (has 56 and record is 64), innings (has 482 1/3 and record is 540 2/3) and strikeouts (has 484 and record is 591). Quintana also has a share of the single-game strikeout record (15), a mark she has reached twice, including in this season's opener against Rhode Island.

Quintana already holds the single-season records for shutouts (11), appearances (34), games started (24), complete games (24), victories (20), innings pitched (189 2/3) and strikeouts (214). All were set in 2006 and are in danger of being broken this spring.

Marietta returns to action Tuesday (March 27) afternoon, when it travels to Wooster for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. The Pioneers will also play at Kenyon Friday (March 30) and at Otterbein Saturday (March 31).
