Marietta softball jumps to fifth in NCAA Division III Regional Poll
Lady Pioneers 17-5 in regional play

Apr. 26, 2007
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The NCAA Division III Softball Committee has released the second NCAA Division III softball poll of the spring, and Marietta College leaped from eighth to fifth in the Central Region. The rankings list the top eight teams in each of the eight regions with records as of April 22.

Marietta enters the home stretch of the regular season, which four games in two days this weekend, is now 25-7, including 10-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The Lady Pioneers improved their in-region record to 17-5 with a 7-1 mark this past week.

DePauw (Ind.) (31-3, 21-2 in-region) took over the top spot in the region. Muskingum (27-7, 22-4 in-region) was second with Alma (Mich.) (23-7, 13-1 in-region) third and Ohio Northern (25-7, 16-4 in-region) fourth. Thomas More (Ky.) (23-8, 17-5 in-region) followed Marietta in sixth, while Hope (Mich.) (19-8, 8-2 in-region) was seventh and Capital (23-11, 18-5 in-region) was eighth. Again, the records were as of April 22.

Marietta will look not only to move up the regional rankings but, more importantly, secure a spot in the four-team OAC Tournament, which will begin next week on the campus of the top seed. The Pioneers still have some work to do, however, as they travel to Wilmington Friday (Apr. 27) for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader and then make their way to John Carroll Saturday (Apr. 28) for a 1 p.m. twinbill. Marietta will get a final OAC Tournament tune-up on Tuesday (May 1) when it visits Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) for a 4 p.m. non conference doubleheader.
