Apr. 29, 2007
MARIETTA, Ohio — The pairings for the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Softball Tournament were announced Sunday (Apr. 29) evening and Marietta College earned the third seed in the four-team tournament, which will be hosted by top-seeded Ohio Northern Friday (May 4) and Saturday (May 5).
Ohio Northern and Muskingum tied for the regular season championship with 15-3 records, while Capital and Marietta had identical 13-5 records in the OAC and tied for third. A coin flip determined the top seed and the host of the tournament. Ohio Northern won the toss and the right to host; it will be the first time in 11 years that the tournament will not be played at Muskingum.
As a result of the Polar Bears winning the flip, the Pioneers won the tie breaker to get the third seed because they split with ONU during the regular season. Capital will be the fourth seed.
Marietta will make its third straight and seventh overall stop in the OAC Tournament. The Pioneers won the 1996 title and finished runners-up in 1985 and 2006.
Marietta and Muskingum will open the double-elimination tournament Friday at 11 a.m. Capital and Ohio Northern will then play at 1 p.m. The winners will meet at 3 p.m. and the losers will go head-to-head in an elimination game at 5 p.m. The tournament concludes Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers have one final tune up before the OAC Tournament. Marietta will visit Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) Tuesday (May 1) for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. |
