defeats No. 18 Ohio Northern, 1-0, to advance to the Championship
of the OAC Softball Tournament

ADA, Ohio – Senior Kristen Quintana (Denver,
Colo./Littleton) threw her fourth no-hitter of the season, and sophomore
Erin Faulkner (Wheelersburg) delivered a game-winning
RBI single, as the Marietta College softball team defeated host
No. 18 Ohio Northern, 1-0, Saturday (May 5) morning to propel it
into the championship game of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC)
Tournament.
Marietta (32-9) advances to take on No. 9 Muskingum at 1 p.m. It
is the second straight season that the teams will meet in the OAC
Tournament, and the Pioneers will need to win twice to capture the
OAC Tournament title. Ohio Northern finished the year 32-10-1.
Quintana (21-6), who threw no-hitters against Baldwin-Wallace,
Heidelberg and Wilmington during the regular season, walked four
and struck out eight en route to her school-record 21st victory
of the year.
The Pioneers’ offense, which finished with four hits, scored
their only run in the fifth. Sophomore Christina DeMoss
(Bellville/Clear Fork) drew a one-out walk. Sophomore Courtney
Reid (Canton/McKinley) replaced DeMoss as a pinch runner
and then stole second base with two outs. Faulkner, who finished
2-for-3, then drove in Reid with a single through the right side.
Erin Kenny (24-5) took the loss, allowing one
run on four hits while walking two and striking out a pair.
