Record six Marietta softball players named All-OAC in 2007
May 5, 2007
ADA, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced its 2007 Softball All-OAC Teams and Special Awards Winners after the championship game of the OAC Tournament Saturday (May 7), and six Marietta College student-athletes were given recognition, including senior Kristen Quintana (Denver, Colo./Littleton), who was named first team All-OAC and the John Well OAC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season.
Joining Quintana on the first team were seniors Jenny Carroll (Lisbon/Beaver Local) and Lindsey Romick (Hannibal/River) as well as sophomore Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire). A pair of Pioneers—sophomore Erin Faulkner (Wheelersburg) and freshman Katie Woolf (Louisville)—earned second team honors.
Marietta (32-10) finished runners-up in this year’s OAC Tournament, falling to No. 9 Muskingum, 4-3, in the Championship Game. It was the second straight year and third time overall that the Pioneers took second place in the OAC Tournament. Marietta, who won the OAC Tournament in 1996, also claimed a second place finish in the inaugural OAC Tournament, which was held in 1985.
The Pioneers are now waiting to hear if they will receive an at-large bid to postseason play. The NCAA Regional selections are slated to be announced Monday morning. Muskingum secured the OAC’s automatic bid by winning the OAC Tournament.
The six Marietta selections tie the 1995 and 1996 squads for most in school history. 2007 is the first time that the Lady Pioneers have had four first team honorees.
Quintana earned her second straight John Wells OAC Pitcher of the Year award. In addition, it is her second first team and third overall All-OAC selection; she was named first team in 2006 and second team in 2005.
