KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Marietta College softball team defeated Lake Forest (Ill.) College in game one of day four at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The win improves the Pioneers’ record to 4-3 on the season, while the Foresters fall to 5-3.

Junior Erin Faulkner (Wheelersburg) scored her third win of the week by pitching another complete game; she carried a no hitter into the fifth inning. Faulkner (3-1) completed seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and six walks. The junior also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBI in the game.

Junior Emily McComb (Gnadenhutten/Indian Valley) went 3-for-5, including a first inning triple to get the Pioneers going early. Sophomore Katie Woolf (Louisville) went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Brandy Jacob (Wellington/Keystone) also went 2-for-4 on the day with one RBI.

Marietta plated one run in the first after Woolf hit a single to bring home McComb, who had tripled in the previous at bat. Faulkner would bring in senior Nikki Veigel (Canton/Canton South) on sacrifice fly in the fourth. Woolf would drive in McComb with a single again in the fifth to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. A Faulkner double in the sixth would bring home pinch runner Sarah Gruner (Gibsonburg) to push the lead to 4-0. Faulkner would later score on an error to make the 5-0 after six.

The Foresters would plate three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3. Marietta would add three in the top half of the seventh off of some sloppy play from Lake Forest. Faulkner would then take care of the Foresters in the seventh to secure the five-run victory.

Marietta finished eight runs on 10 hits and made one error. Lake Forest finished the game with three runs on four hits and had three errors.

Marietta returns to action when its plays Cortland State (N.Y.) later this afternoon (March 13) at 3 p.m.
