March 30, 2009
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its Athletes of the Week on Monday (March 30) afternoon for the period of March 22-29, and Marietta College sophomore pitcher Amanda Strong (Mineral Wells, W.Va/Parkerburg South) was named the OAC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts on the diamond.
Strong played a key role in the Pioneers achieving a 6-0 record last week and improving to 14-6 on the season. The right-hander, typically Marietta’s second starter, took the ball from Head Coach Jeanne Arbuckle in the first game of all three non-conference doubleheaders and went 3-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.47 ERA.
Strong began the week with a one-hit shutout of Bethany (W.Va.). She then scattered one run on six hits against Wooster. Strong finished the week with an eight-hit shutout against Kenyon.
For the year, Strong (5-2) has allowed 15 runs (13 earned) on 42 hits with 25 strikeouts and a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings.
Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (April 1) afternoon when it resumes Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against visiting Wilmington College. First pitch of the doubleheader at Marietta Field is slated for 3:30 p.m. |
