MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Head Softball Coach Jeanne Arbuckle recently announced that former Ashland University standout Jennifer Alderson has joined the Marietta College Athletics Department as an assistant softball coach. Alderson’s primary focus will be with the Pioneer pitching staff while also helping to coordinate the program’s annual recruiting efforts.
"I am really excited to begin my coaching career at Marietta," Alderson said. "I feel being at Marietta is going to help me grow as a coach. Being able to work with Coach Arbuckle is going to be a great experience."
Alderson pitched and played the outfield for Ashland from 2004-08. She earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honorable mention in 2007 and All-GLIAC first team honors as a senior captain in 2008. Alderson also received Academic All-GLIAC recognition as a junior and senior.
Alderson is an experience softball instructor, having worked the Ashland Fall and Winter Camps for the last six years. She has also been providing private levels for athletes of all ages since 2005. Alderson spent the summer of 2008 as an instructor at the Bianco School of Baseball in Canonsburg, Pa.
"I’m very pleased to have Jenn joining out staff," Arbuckle said. "She brings a wealth of experience working with pitchers, outfielders and hitters. I know she will be a great addition to our staff."
Alderson earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ashland in 2008. The Preschool-Third Grade certified teacher worked as a long-term substitute for a second grade class at Edison Elementary School, located in Ashland during the spring of 2009.
Marietta finished the 2009 season 23-13 overall and 10-8 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), which placed the Pioneers in a tie for fifth in the final standings. |
