Jeanne Arbuckle
Head Coach

Coach Jeanne Arbuckle hopes to carry the momentum from the 2007, the most successful season in Marietta College softball history, into her 21st year as the leader of the Pioneers' softball program.

2007 was a memorable year for Arbuckle who is now 362-338 (.517) in her career with the Pioneers. She helped guide the squad, which was ranked as high as No. 14 nationally, into the team's second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, a second place finish in the OAC Tournament and an overall record of 34-12.

In 2006, Arbuckle guided her squad, to a 33-11 record and a runners-up finish at the 2006 OAC Tournament. In addition, Arbuckle won her 300th game with a 7-2 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts while the team was in Florida during spring break, and her staff earned the OAC Staff of the Year award at the end of the season.

In 1996, Arbuckle's squad won the OAC Championship and went on to the NCAA Tournament, the first time a women's team reached the NCAA regional in Marietta College history. Arbuckle was named the NCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 1996, and OAC Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996.

During her tenure at Marietta, Arbuckle has had the privilege of coaching 28 All-Region players and 43 All-OAC players. She has also spent time as a member of the NCAA Central Regional Advisory Committee.

In addition to her duties as softball coach, Arbuckle serves as an Associate Athletics Director and is chairman of the physical education department.

Arbuckle has been active as a camp clinician and coach. She serves as the director of the Pioneers FastPitch Camps and has done clinics and camps throughout Ohio and West Virginia. She is also an active member of the National FastPtich Coaches Association. She serves on the advisory Board for Coast to Coast Amateur Athletes, a sports and youth development program that provides opportunities for international travel in conjunction with competitive softball experience.

Arbuckle earned her bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock (Pa.) and a master's degree in physical education from Ithaca (N.Y.). She taught elementary physical education for six years, during which time she coached basketball, softball and volleyball at the high school level. She also served as the softball and volleyball graduate assistant coach at Ithaca before her appointment at Marietta in the fall of 1986.

Assistant Coach

Sally Friend is in her first season as an assistant varsity and the head junior varsity softball coach at Marietta College. As the Pioneers new pitching coach, Friend will provide the guidance and experience needed to help make another run at the Ohio Athletic Conference title.

A former Marietta softball standout, Friend helped lead the Pioneers to their first OAC Championship in 1996. During that year, Friend recorded the lowest ERA in Marietta softball history (0.91) and received All-OAC and All-Region honors after finishing 17-4. For her career, Friend posted a 1.51 ERA and an overall record of 35-19. She graduated as the all-time leader in shutouts (10), no-hitters (2), wins (35), strikeouts (190), ERA (1.51) and winning percentage (.648).

Friend, originally from Ripley, West Virginia, received her Bachelor of Arts in education from Marietta in 1999. While with the Pioneers, the pitcher was a four-year letterwinner.

Friend previously worked as a teacher in the Noble Correctional Institute in Caldwell, Ohio, where she lives. She has also renewed her pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in geology at Marietta.


Marietta College
