Marietta men net first victory of the season with 4-3 win over Waynesburg

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team defeated Waynesburg (Pa.) 4-3 Tuesday (Apr. 4) afternoon in a non conference match at the Beren Tennis Center.
With the victory, Head Coach Jesse DuPerow's first of his tennis coacing career, the Pioneers improved to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Waynesburg fell to 3-5 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets took the doubles point with a pair of victories, winning 8-6 at first doubles and 8-0 at third doubles. Marietta's second doubles team of Mark Briggs and Ryan Callihan won their match 8-2.
The Pioneers showed their resiliance in the singles competition and were able to win four of the six points to secure the victory.
Josh McLaughlin won his second singles match (6-2, 6-3). Briggs was victorious at third singles (6-2, 6-3). Tom Konsen pulled out a win (6-0, 6-3) in fourth singles, while Eddie Yu won at fifth singles (6-1, 6-4).
Marietta will return to league play Wednesday (Apr. 5) when it travels to Mount Union for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Purple Raiders.
