Pioneer women advance to second round of the OAC Tennis Tournament
Marietta defeats Capital 5-1 for first OAC Tournament win in history

MASON, Ohio — The seventh-seeded Marietta College women’s tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-1 victory over tenth-seeded Capital Friday (Apr. 28) morning.
The Pioneers will take on second-seeded John Carroll in the next round, which will begin at 1 p.m.
Marietta improved to 5-8 on the year, while Capital finished 3-13 overall.
Freshman Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) and senior Lauren Stermer (Ocala, Fla./Forest) won their first doubles match by the score of 8-5.
Sophomore Elizabeth Smith (Vienna, W.Va./Parkersburg Catholic) and freshman Allison Koprowski (Brecksville/Brecksville/Broadview Heights) earned the victory at third doubles by the score of 8-2.
Junior Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) and sophomore Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) fell at second doubles, 8-6.
Carraher went on to win at first singles (6-0, 6-1), Smith took a point at second singles (6-0, 6-1) and Stermer clinched the victory with a win at third singles (6-1, 6-2). |
