Chadwell and Stermer earn Academic All-OAC At-Large honors
Both women's tennis players given honorable mention

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference office announced the 2006 Academic All-OAC Women's At-Large winners Wednesday (May 10) and Marietta College tennis players Lauren Stermer (Ocala, Fla./Forest) and Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) were both named Academic All-OAC honorable mention.
Stermer, a senior advertising and public relations major, carried a 3.389 grade point average into her final semester at Marietta College.
On the court, the 2004 All-OAC honorable mention honoree, went 7-6 in singles action, seeing time mainly at third singles for the Pioneers (5-9). She also played first doubles all season.
When not playing tennis, Stermer
is active in Omicron Chi Theta (President), American-International Association and Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
She is also a member of the Dean’s High Honor List and Athletic Directors’ Honor Roll.
Chadwell, a junior organizational communication major who is also working toward minor in art and a certificate in leadership, carried a 4.0 grade point average into her sixth semester at Marietta College.
On the court, Chadwell saw most of her time at fourth and fifth singles for the Pioneers. She also played second doubles for most of the season.
When not playing tennis, Chadwell works for men's basketball coach Doug Foote and is active in the Student Alumni Council and Student-Athlete Advisory Council, where she was elected the Vice President for the 2006-07 school year. She is also a member of the Dean’s High Honor List, Athletic Directors’ Honor Roll and
Alpha Lambda Delta.
The academic award winners are selected by OAC faculty athletics representatives. 35 athletes, representing golf, swimming, tennis and wrestling, were selected. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 GPA, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his/her second year of participation in the sport.
