fall to Bethany, 5-4, in season opener
Briggs and Yager each win at singles

BETHANY, W.Va. — Head Coach Mike Snell and
the Marietta College men's tennis team opened the 2007 season with
a 5-4 loss at Bethany (W.Va.) College Thursday (March 22) afternoon.
The Pioneers (0-1) took two of the three doubles matches, but the
Bison (1-1) answered by winning four of the six singles matches
to steal the victory.
Senior Josh McLaughlin (Vincent/Warren Local)
and Bruce Kitchens (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge)
combined to win at first doubles, taking down Joe McLane
and Andrew McPherson, 8-4.
Junior Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Township/Olmsted
Falls) and freshman Andrew Bolton (Timonium, Md./Calvert
Hall) won at third doubles, defeating David Hayes
and Robert Lowe, 8-5.
In singles action, junior Mark Briggs (Westerville
South) defeated Joe McLane, 3-6, 7-5, 10-4, in
fourth singles, and sophomore Justin Yager (Marion/Pleasant)
topped Bill Grant, 6-2, 6-3, at sixth singles.
Marietta returns to action Saturday (March 24), when it plays host
to Ohio Northern at 1 p.m.
