Lady Pioneers open OAC play with a tough loss to Polar Bears
ONU sweeps Marietta 9-0

March 24, 2007
ADA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team knew that it would have a rough first week of the season, as the Lady Pioneers opened the 2007 campaign with matches against the Ohio Athletic Conference's top two teams from a year ago. Marietta, which fell 6-3 to John Carroll on Thursday, suffered a 9-0 loss at Ohio Northern Saturday (March 24) afternoon.

The loss drops Marietta's record to 0-2, 0-1 in the OAC. Ohio Northern improves to 11-4, 1-0 in league play.

The Lady Pioneers were forced to adjust their lineup as a result of senior Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) not making the trip so that she could watch her two younger brothers capture the Ohio High School Athletic Association's state championship in Division IV basketball.

The only close match came at first singles, when a pair of 2006 first team All-OAC foes—Ohio Northern's Kaitlyn Macdonald and Marietta sophomore Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson)—went head-to-head. Macdonald held off Carraher (7-5, 6-3) to pick up the 100th of victory of her career, making her the fourth person to reach that mark at ONU.

Marietta returns to action Sunday (March 25), when it visits Case Western for a 1 p.m. non conference match.
